This easy recipe for brisket in an Instant Pot or pressure cooker results in a tender & juicy BBQ beef brisket everyone is sure to love!

I retrieve of one affair these days when I hear the word brisket – The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

If yous haven't watched that show still, practise yourself a favor and get to it!

Information technology'due south i of the funniest series' out at that place and will totally leave yous with a grinning on your confront later on every episode.

I'm non sure how this Instant Pot beefiness brisket compares to Miriam's in taste (not and then sure hers has a BBQ undertone to the recipe) but I can promise y'all this brisket recipe is not merely succulent, merely also quicker and easier than hers (which took hours in the oven co-ordinate to the prove).

The Instant Pot (or whatever pressure level cooker) makes quick work of this big, tough piece of beefiness and the result is tender, juicy, fall-apart beef brisket in a fraction of the time.

Quite similar to my Instant Pot venison roast which is another favorite!

WHAT IS BEEF BRISKET?

Brisket is a large cutting of beef from the breast/pectoral surface area of the cow. A full cut can range from eight-16 pounds on average.

Because of its size, brisket is usually separated into two cuts creating a "flat cutting" and a "point cut". The cutting used in these pictures is a apartment cut.

Both cuts can be used to make brisket in the Instant Pot but you'll detect more fat and less meat on signal cuts versus flat cuts.

Because of the fatty layer to the indicate cutting (also referred to as the "deckle"), information technology's often basis and sold every bit burger meat or something similar.

Because brisket comes from an area of the cow that gets heavy use, it's more muscular in nature (with more connective tissue) and therefore a tougher cut of meat.

It's also, still, a very economical cut of meat for the same reason.

Cuts like brisket lend themselves to long cooking times in gild to break down that connective tissue.

Depression temperature, slow cooking methods are the about common whether it'southward smoked, braised (like this veal brisket recipe or, like this recipe, cooked in a pressure cooker.

HOW TO MAKE BRISKET IN AN INSTANT POT

Using an electrical pressure cooker like the Instant Pot makes quick work of brisket and the issue is tender beef that falls apart hands after but 90 minutes of high pressure level cooking.

You lot can also see a video step by footstep of making my brisket Instant Pot recipe for more info.

STEP 1: Dry RUB

To first, combine the dry out rub spices in a pocket-sized bowl and rub them all over both sides of the brisket:

  • cumin
  • paprika
  • chili powder
  • garlic powder
  • cayenne
  • salt
  • ground mustard

The spice combination is scrap on the BBQ side and while I wouldn't call this brisket recipe a traditional Texas BBQ approach, it has undertones of BBQ flavor.

Experience gratis to change up the dry out rub spices to your preference.

For a traditional Texas approach, try this Texas brisket rub recipe. Yous tin can use that instead and follow the same steps to cooking the brisket in the Instant Pot below.

STEP 2: SAUTÉ ONIONS & GARLIC

Using the sauté function on the Instant Pot, cook the onions and garlic with some avocado oil (or other high heat oil) until they're softened.

This volition provide a flavorful bed for the brisket to sit down upon while it pressure cooks.

STEP 3: ADD BRISKET, Goop & BBQ SAUCE

Cut the brisket in half if necessary so that you can accommodate it in a single layer as best as possible on summit of the cooked onions and garlic.

Pour the beef broth on the side (and then that yous don't wash the dry out rub off the brisket) into the pot and then the BBQ sauce on top.

STEP four: PRESSURE Melt

Close the chapeau, plough the valve to the "sealing" position and cook on the "Meat/Stew" mode on high force per unit area for 90 minutes.

Once the 90 minutes are through, allow the Instant Pot to naturally release for ten minutes.

And then, turn the valve to "venting" and quick release the remaining pressure.

Carefully open up the lid and transfer the force per unit area cooker beef brisket to a cutting board.

STEP five: REDUCE SAUCE

This is an optional step, you could definitely slice or shred the brisket at this point and spoon the sauce from the pot over tiptop as is.

If you lot want a slightly thicker sauce, withal, turn the Instant Pot to Sauté mode once again and cook the sauce, stirring oftentimes for 5-10 minutes until reduced a flake.

Tip: For an even thicker sauce – mix i tablespoon of cornstarch with 1 tablespoon cold water until dissolved. Pour into the Instant Pot while on sauté mode and stir until thickened.

SERVING INSTANT POT Beef BRISKET

To serve, at that place are ii options.

  1. Piece the brisket and place on a serving platter. Spoon the reduced/thickened sauce over acme and garnish with fresh herbs of selection.
  2. Shred the brisket using ii forks. Return the shredded brisket to the Instant Pot with the sauce. Toss to coat all the meat in the sauce. Serve every bit desired. This is how I like to serve braised leg of lamb too.

For the sliced brisket approach, I'd recommend some piece of cake sides like Candy-coated Carrots, Roasted Pesto Potatoes (or, Roasted Peri Peri Potatoes to continue the spice theme), Roasted Radishes or some Stuffed Heirloom Tomatoes.

If choosing the shredded Instant Pot brisket and tossing with the sauce, effort serving it on top of Creamy Cauliflower Pumpkin Brew, Roasted Parsnip Puree, Roasted Garlic Greek Yogurt Smashed Potatoes or, Goat Cheese and Spinach Mashed Sweet Potatoes.

WHAT IF MY BRISKET IS BIGGER OR SMALLER?

I used a 3.75 pound brisket in this recipe and cooked it for 90 minutes on high pressure.

If your brisket is only 2-3 pounds, I would recommend shortening cooking time to 75-fourscore minutes.

If your brisket is closer to 5-six pounds, increase cooking time to 100-110 minutes.

Cooking information technology longer makes it easier to shred. Shorter cooking times, permit for a more "sliceable" brisket.

Adjust the cooking times for how you plan to serve the cooked brisket.

WHAT TO DO WITH LEFTOVER BRISKET

Personally, I prefer the 2nd serving suggestion and love having leftover shredded brisket to employ in easy spinoff recipes.

Brisket quesadillas, brisket hash, brisket baked potatoes, brisket chili or brisket nachos are some of my favorites Instant Pot brisket recipes.

BBQ sauce is added to the Instant Pot on top of the brisket before cooking.

HOW TO Store LEFTOVER COOKED BRISKET

Place any leftovers in an air-tight container and make sure to spoon whatsoever remaining sauce over top of the meat to keep it moist.

The brisket tin can be kept in the fridge for up to a week or two stored like this.

If you adopt to freeze the leftovers, proceed brisket and sauce split.

Wrap the brisket in plastic wrap or identify in a plastic sealable bag and then place in an air-tight container to prevent freezer fire.

The sauce tin be stored in a dissever air-tight container in the freezer. Thaw both in the fridge before reheating.

Brisket after 90 minutes of cooking in the Instant Pot is fall apart tender and juicy.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BRISKET AND CORNED Beef?

This is a expert question considering it can get a little disruptive since corned beef is technically beef brisket!

Beef brisket like this one used hither is fresh, uncured meat.

Corned beefiness, however, has been cured, brined and ofttimes pre-spiced or at minimum, the pickling spices are provided to you with the meat when you purchase information technology from the store.

If you prefer corned beef, check out my corned beefiness tacos or corned beef breakfast hash. I hash out the easiest way to cook corned beefiness in the taco recipe as well.

It'south not, simply it'south too much quicker andbut as delicious. In a unlike way of course.

The Instant Pot is corking for cooking brisket because:

  • It reduces a procedure that ordinarily takes all day (smoking) or at least multiple hours (traditional braising) down to an 60 minutes and one-half cooking time.
  • It'southward not necessary to brown or sear the meat beforehand.
  • And my favorite, the meat and the sauce cook together at the same time.

So, no, information technology's not smoked BBQ Texas brisket but it's a lovely centre ground of braised, savory meat with a hint of BBQ.
